FVSEF is a valley-wide nonprofit community-based youth organization dedicated to the promotion of athletic, academic and personal excellence through educational and competitive programs in skiing and ski racing. FVSEF participants become better athletes, better students and better citizens….For Life!
Enrollment is open to ages 7 and older. All skiing group assignments are based on age, ability, and optimum potential for individual improvement. Training sessions run from December through March and vary from entry level at 1 day per week to FIS-level at 5 days per week. Group sizes are typically from 5 to 8 athletes per coach.
The FVSEF curriculum is based on the United States Ski and Snowboard Association Alpine Training System and the principles of Long-Term Athlete Development. Before an athlete can become a truly great ski racer they must become a great skier. Individual development focuses first on a child’s athletic skills and skiing foundation, before introducing advanced skiing and ski racing skills. Emphasis is on fun and friendship throughout the learning cycle. Other elements include physical conditioning, technical and tactical emphasis, equipment selection and maintenance, performance psychology and approach to competition in each of the training phases
Benefits of skiing with FVSEF include
- Development of life-long, all-mountain skiing skills
- Goal setting and achievement
- Personal challenge, growth and character development
- Long- term friendships
